It is just over a month since The Prime Minister Problem was released. And what a whirlwind time it has been. There has been the Brisbane launch of TPMP, which was the most wonderful, exhilarating, and overwhelming afternoon. I was so grateful for everyone who came along and to my friend Clare for interviewing me and hosting the event - but it also went by in such a big hectic blur, that I collapsed into bed when I got home! It’s funny to dream about milestones on the author journey and then to finally have one occur - I had thought about my very first book launch, and what it might be like, for many years. And when it came to fruition, I really couldn’t have asked for a more loving and supportive room of family and friends and peers who came to help me celebrate. I felt, and still feel, so grateful. So lucky. Just last week, we went to Sydney for a whirlwind book tour. Hoping to still get to Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide later in the year. In Sydney, we had a book launch at Better Read Than Dead, and also visited seven bookstores. I signed lots of copies of my book, talked to booksellers, chatted to teachers and librarians and other authors, met up with friends and did a lot of walking (roughly over 25Km in the three days). Oh, and we went to Sea Life Aquarium and saw a dugong named Pig. That was a real highlight! I have a deadline for a book, and I’m working on the first draft of a middle-grade (just for myself, not contracted yet - so although there is no pressure, I seem to always put pressure and deadlines on myself!!), and after the Sydney trip and the month of May being so big with the launch of the book, and all the stuff that comes with sending a book into the world, I am feeling rather worn out. I’m trying to take it a bit easy for a while. But I wanted to capture the moment of this launch month before time moved on too quickly, so please enjoy some photos of my last few days on book tour in Sydney: we visited Abbeys, Books Kinokunyia, Gleebooks Glebe, Dymocks Sydney, Constant Reader, State Library of NSW Bookshop (we also saw the Pamela Allen Exhibit at SL NSW - it was GLORIOUS! See my photos below. Book touring aside, I would have gone to Sydney just for this exhibit) and Better Read Than Dead, where the launch event also was (hosted by the gorgeously generous children’s author Kristin Darell!). It was a wonderful Sydney launch and so great to see family and friends and fellow authors. I am so honoured that everyone came! (And the bookshop sold out of copies! ) I also must mention I have two events this month: an In Conversation Event at Books@Stones in Brisbane and I am also joining an online Zoom session with the QLD branch of School Librarians Association. They are doing The Prime Minister Problem for their book club. Check the ‘Events’ page to learn more. Well, I’m going back to laying low for a while now. If you’ve bought or borrowed or read The Prime Minister Problem so far - thank you. I really feel the love. If you enjoy it, please consider posting a review, even a short one, online on the page for the book on Goodreads, Amazon, Booktopia or on your socials. I’d truly appreciate it. Warm wishes, Brenton PS: Last night, I had a sudden realisation: The Prime Minister Problem does not belong to me anymore, not in the same way. It’s living a life on its own. I can’t watch out for it. I can’t hold its hand. I can’t make sure people say nice things and care for it the way I cared for it when it was just the story and me on our own. It feels discombobulating. I just hope the book, and my character little Wren, will be okay. SYDNEY BOOK TOUR/LAUNCH/HOLIDAY PHOTOSIt was terrific to see everyone who came to my Sydney launch but I was especially thrilled that CBCA-Winners and ACTUAL KidLit Legends Simon French and Libby Gleeson (both pictured), two of my ultimate favourite authors since childhood, and whom I corresponded with as a budding kid writer, came to my book launch. It meant so much. Little Brenton was fist-pumping the air on the inside! BRISBANE BOOK LAUNCH PHOTOS
